The Religious Right: Wolves amidst the sheep
Submitted by Matthew A. Spencer on Wed, 12/01/2004 - 04:00Since the end of the U.S election, Republicans and Democrats, politicians and pundits alike have generally agreed on one thing: the deciding factors among voters boil down to moral issues. Among those taking credit for the Bush victory are the many groups of the American ‘religious right’.

Submitted by Darcy Hartwick on Wed, 12/01/2004 - 04:00The real irony, however, is that advertising – in its current form, at least—is not only an annoyance, but a costly hindrance to market efficiency.
Heroes and Ghosts
Submitted by Andrew J. Prevost on Wed, 12/01/2004 - 04:00SCARCELY LESS THAN a year ago, I wrote an article full of sarcastic praise for those bold heroes of the Iraq war: George W. Bush and his cabinet of cowboys and crusaders, the ‘bravest of men’. On further reflection, however, I have come to the conclusion that western society has, as discussed below, traded our heroes for ghosts, and our courage for mundane, everyday dangers.

An Indictment of Democracy and the Obvious Case for Enlightened Despotism
Submitted by Dave Moscrop on Wed, 12/01/2004 - 04:00IT HAS PIQUED me recently, and engaged my concern of late, to hear that a radical and absurd form of political system has emerged. You must forgive me, for I had been away on a sojourn with my head in the clouds for sometime and have only recently heard of this frightful and subversive trend—a trend that gallops threateningly towards the ramparts of sensible political organization.
An Experiment with Democracy Gone Wrong
Submitted by Gregory Ko on Wed, 12/01/2004 - 04:00IT’S CALLED BC-STV. No, it’s not a variant of a sexually transmitted virus, but rather British Columbia’s newest candidate for electoral reform. Legislators from Parliament Hill and every provincial legislature are anxiously keeping their eyes peeled on B.C.’s experiment in electoral restructuring.
